Brake Temperature Monitoring

The RACELOGIC Brake Temperature Monitoring System measures, logs and displays the surface temperature of the brake disc, providing invaluable information to the test driver whilst on track.

  • Up to 16 temperature points per sensor
  • Surface temperatures ranging from -4 °F to 2012 °F
  • Compatible with VBOX Video HD2 and VBOX Touch
  • Live temperature display with VBOX Touch

Temperature

Each of the four 60° FOV sensors can measure up to 16 temperature points on an object with surface temperatures ranging from -4 °F to 2012 °F.

Live display

When used with the VBOX Touch and the Brake Temperature Monitoring app, you can see the 64 individual heat maps live on screen, as well as live temperature and maximum temperature values.

Compatible with VBOX Video

The sensors can also be connected to a VBOX Video HD2 and the heat maps overlaid in real-time on the video. This shows you exactly what is happening on track and makes it easy to interpret the data.

The brake sensors are engineered to track the rapidly fluctuating temperatures on a brake rotor's surface at various points. This capability enables monitoring of temperature distribution across the rotor surface over time. This data is vital for multiple reasons: it aids in evaluating and enhancing the uniformity of brake pad pressure on the rotor, selecting appropriate brake pads, ensuring efficient cooling, improving overall braking efficiency, and preventing the formation of hot spots due to uneven heating, which could result in thermal instability.

A sensor is configured to measure temperatures at several points — either 16, 8, or 4 points — with high precision, up to 100 times per second (100 Hz). It can measure temperatures ranging from freezing (-4˚F) to very hot (2012˚F). Furthermore, all these sensors are encased in a sturdy, compact aluminum housing with an IP66 rating, signifying strong protection against dust and water.

When bundled with the VBOX Touch data logger (RLVBBTMS), you can record and observe the temperature of all four brake disks on a 4.3-inch colour screen that's easily readable in daylight. The brake temperature monitoring app running on VBOX Touch provides a heat map for each sensor, along with real-time temperature readings, peak temperature values, Speed and Vmax.

You can also use the Brake Temperature Sensor Kit (RLACS314) with a VBOX Video HD2 data logger. In this case, the recorded temperature data is synchronised with the video and can be displayed as a real-time graphic overlay on the video footage.
